Reflexology is a therapeutic foot massage. There are reflex points at the bottom of the feet that access the nervous system of the body. In layman’s terms, the hands and feet are the circuit breakers of the body. To massage certain areas of the feet or hands sends little electrical pulses to the area of the body that needs attention and healing. This treatment is divine! There are two Reflexology treatments available. One is an half hour add on to a service. The other treatment is a service all on its own. This reflexology treatment includes a foot bath, aromatherapy oils and hot towels wrapping the feet.

Tranquil Facial

April 30, 2013

The tranquil facial is a wonderfully relaxing facial treatment using Dr. Grandel products. Dr. Grandel is a German line that is well known in Europe and is up and coming in the US. European lines have a gentle approach to skin care. There is a lot of massage in European Facials because products are layered on the skin in a particular order to be absorbed. Massaging each layer presses ingredients into the epidermis. So prepare for relaxation while receiving a treatment that is custom designed for your skin type.

Hot Stone Therapy

April 30, 2013

Hot Stone Massage is an ancient ceremony of beauty. The stones are both luxurious and utilitarian. The heat flows through the stones into your deepest tightest muscles. Your muscles are able to release more efficiently because of the increased circulation due to the heat of the stones. These smooth black stones were formed by volcanic activity and carved into a smooth shape by the glaciers as they retreated north marking the end of the ice age. This glacial smoothing and carving process created wonderful tools that we call basalt stones to use for massage. Basalt stones have been used for thousands of years on nearly every continent by ancient traditional healers. Mary D. Nelson brought them back to popularity in the late 90’s with her passion for hot stone massage under the name of La Stone Therapy. So thanks to Mary, the stones have yet again come full circle in the healing world.

Deep Therapeutic Work

April 30, 2013

Deep Therapeutic Work is an advanced massage technique that works exclusively with pain and/or restriction. Depending on the nature of this this bodywork, there can be a fairly constant dialog between therapist and client because this work is deep and can be intense. This treatment is given by invitation only, as it is only applicable in certain situations. If your therapist thinks you need this type of work, they will let you know after your first massage at Illumina Spa.

Current vacuum therapies are a modern use of an ancient tool and possess the benefits of traditional use, along with many incredible new applications. This therapy utilizes glass or plastic cups and a vacuum pistol, bulb or machine to create suction on the body surface. These cups are moved over the skin using gliding, shaking, popping and rotating techniques while gently pulling up on the cup, and are parked for a short time to facilitate joint mobilization or soft tissue release. This suction can reach deep into the soft tissue or can work superficially to pull inflammation and toxins toward the surface so that the skin and lymphatic system can readily eliminate them. Scar tissues often release quickly, despite the age of the injury or keloid tendencies.

One of the most amazing aspects of this technique is the “separation” that the vacuum produces in tissue layers. This enables water absorption and renewed blood flow to undernourished and dehydrated tissue, which is invaluable in pre- and post-surgery treatments. It is becoming evident that separation of fused, congested soft tissue and increase in tissue function can be a catalyst for change in many current health conditions.
VacuTherapies™ can comfortably:

Decrease or relieve pain and inflammation from injury or chronic conditions.
Relieve deep muscular issues and reduces muscle spasms.
Release and soften scar tissue and loosen post-surgery adhesions.
Lift and stretch soft tissue to separate fascia and restrictions.
Increase range of movement and flexibility in joints.
Promote healthy circulation and open the energy flow of the body.
Move stagnation and enable normal lymphatic flow.
Enhance any athletic training program to improve performance.
Reduce “Solid Bloat”.

Reiki is the sacred practice of laying on of the hands. The Reiki Practitioner places their hands close or on your body in a prayerful way to allow Gods healing energy to help you. In a true form of Reiki, the practitioner does not guide the energy; s(he) simply allows God’s energy to move through their hands. while keeping a peaceful prayerful state for your healing.

Thai Massage

April 30, 2013

Nuat Boran [noo-ut bo-rahn] is the name of an ancient bodywork practiced in Thailand. In America it is variously called “Thai Massage,” “Thai Yoga Massage,” and “Thai Bodywork.” The Thai people call it Nuat Boran. Boran means “ancient,” in the sense of “classic,” not just “old,” and Nuat is often unfortunately translated as “massage”. But Nuat Boran is so different from what we think of as “massage” that I prefer to call it “bodywork” or by its real name Nuat Boran.

Nuat Boran is one of the most complete forms of bodywork or healing modalities. I like to describe it in terms of three parts or aspects: physical, energy, and spiritual plus the combination of the whole.  This treatment is done fully clothed on a mat on the floor. Wear long workout pants an a t-shirt.

CranioSacral Therapy

April 30, 2013

• CranioSacral therapy(CST) is a type of bodywork. It is not like a massage, even if it does feel like you got a massage after your appointment. My hands are pretty still during this non invasive work. The first part of the session is releasing the connective tissue in the body. One of my hands it on top of you and the other hand is beneath you at the same time. This part of the session gets the body ready for the Cranial and Sacral aspect of the work.

During the cranial and Sacral part of the session, I hold the cranium and sacrum is a light traction so the Dural Tube and Dura matter can release. The dural tube and dura matter are the waterproof coverings of your cerebral spinal fluid which delivers nutrients to your nervous system. When your Dural components are moving freely, your body feels better.A CST session lasts about and hour and 15 minutes.

Relaxation Massage

April 30, 2013

Relaxation massage is a Swedish massage that gently uses strokes and movements to flush and stretch out tension and stress. Allowing nurturing, caring hands to sooth your body and soul is a healing beautiful experience. The right amount of pressure during a massage is priceless. That means communication during a massage is crucial! Please allow your therapist to assist you in your comfort levels during the massage.
